I used to make these lamps from early electric toasters, with colored vellum inside, all the time. Here are several examples.
Harvest Toaster
Remove the paper, and you get an interesting shadow on the wall.
I used aluminum screen and frosted mylar inside this next one, and painted it a metallic blue. It’s unusual in that the sides as well as the doors and top have a cutout design.

Suitable toasters are usually for sale on eBay, if you would like to acquire one. If you want it made into a lamp, please contact me before buying – some toasters work for this and some don’t.
