I’ve had these colanders for ages, and I tried a couple of times to use them. But nothing quite worked out. Then I realized they just wanted to fly solo – or maybe in formation – over a bar or kitchen island, bringing a message of peace and silliness.

Speaking of the unexpected

When I started this lamp, I was just thinking of the light bouncing off the inside and shining through the holes in the hanging disks.

As you can see, the pattern it casts is really something.

It’s discoveries like this–surprises–that are the most fun about working with light. I can never quite anticipate how it’s going to behave. What’s better than that?
